Lights, camera, your story! In this 16-week virtual course, students dive into the art of screenwriting—learning structure, dialogue, character development, and more. Each week features writing prompts, peer feedback, and expert insights from award-winning writer Johanna Lack.
In addition, you’ll learn about other types of scripts: plays, documentaries, corporate videos, public service announcements, and more. You’ll even have the opportunity to write a promo script that, if chosen, will be produced and shown on social media. At the end of the course, you’ll have the chance to show your work and see actors perform one of your scenes at our Showcase. Whether you're writing for film, TV, or digital media, this class is your creative launchpad.
Let’s turn your ideas into scripts that shine on stage and screen!
Johanna Lack: Johanna Lack has taught scriptwriting at JDS Creative Academy since its inception 11 years ago. She is the head writer for JDSCA’s Spirit of Innovation: Arts Across America and is an award-winning television producer/writer who worked on shows for HGTV, DIY, CBS, ABC, and the Discovery Channel. She has always loved scriptwriting, whether writing for class films while earning her B.S. in Radio/Television/Film at Northwestern University, taking extension classes in screenplay writing at UCLA, writing high-rated shows like HGTV’s House Hunters and Designed to Sell, and creating actors’ scenes for JDS Studio. When she started as an assistant to Hollywood producers, she was asked to read and evaluate scripts and quickly learned what made a screenplay great - and what sent it to the reject pile. She uses that knowledge in her own writing and teaching.
